Vulnerability Scanner - False Positive - Flashplayer

I have 3 very similar Dell PCs all running W7 Pro 64 bit. All 3 PCs McAfee is showing the Flash Player as v 11.5x .. but the latest v 11.8 is installed. Based on the indicator on McAfee VS I have manually ran the install for both the IE version and for other browsers. When I goto the control panel:Programs and Features is shows the version on both installs as v 11.8.800.94.   I have rebooted each PC and re-run the VS.  Prior to manually forcing the install .. i ran the install from the VS window .. it appeared to run but then would show same exact message ie the VS install process did not appear to do anything ..

This is going on all my 3 PCs indepently so seems reasonable to think this is a McAfee problem. Where is it reading the installed version .. as v 11.5?

Re: Vulnerability Scanner - False Positive - Flashplayer

Some programs have their own non-system-wide version of flash bundled with them. It is possible the scanner is picking up these files. For example, Google Chrome comes with it's own version of Flash. Many Adobe products do the same thing.

I don't have experience using "Vulnerability Scanner". I use a free program called Secunia PSI (Personal Software Inspector) and it reports these detections and can show where these non-system-wide versions are installed.

Re: Vulnerability Scanner - False Positive - Flashplayer

Hi Lotty,

I will set a clear expectation here what a vulerability scanner does.

When you scan your computer using it, the updates which are very important for your computer will be displayed there. There may be a conflict if you install an advanced version of the software when an appropriate one is required. So install the updates manually so that you will not be having any issues.

McAfee is not like other AV Engines just to scan your computer. These are features were you can make use of it when it is embedded with McAfee.

Ok this is a bug the tier 3/2.5  guys know of it I would have thought it would have been passed to the other support staff.

This is fixed in 12.8.1 being released this week/next week . release will be throttled so it will come down slow only a % users each day.

The issue has been discussed ad infinifum here

To see what you have installed and what is expected see

http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

PS my 12.8 amd beta 12.9 both detect older versions but the actual installed versions are current.
