Thanks to all for comments. The solution was to completely uninstall the product and reinstall it. The firewall could then be turned on.
I had the same problem, and I solved it by doing the following:
1. Go to System preferences on your Mac
2. Go to Security & Privacy
3. Enable modifications by unlocking the lock icon on the bottom left
4. Go to Full disk access
5. Make sure that the McAfee Network Extension is enabled.
This should fix the problem without having to reinstall McAfee. Hope this helps.
The problem continues
Same case with me, have tried re-installing the app multiple times and the problem remains. It is frustrating now to know that a paid app carrying a well known brand of McAfee fails to work in Mac OS environment. This app is currently almost useless when installed in my Macbook.
Updated to new version, it seems to be working now. Need to open Full Disk Access for some of the McAfee components, not an ideal solution but I guess it is what it takes. It is working, will monitor and come back if there is any further issues. Thanks for the update.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled McAfee twice and have followed all of the suggested steps to resolve the issue. However, I'm still unable to turn on the firewall. Currently running Mac OS Big Sur 11.6
