Quick Scan hangs

I just tried to run a quick Scan and it just hangs at 30% completion. When it got to MSVPXENC.dll it just stopped. I can't cancel the scan and even trying to end the scan through the Task Manager doesn't work. I'm running Windows 10 64 bit on a Lenovo. Not sure of the other specs. What the heck is going on?

We are sorry that Quick Scan doesn't work as expected. This could be due to an update issue. Please follow the below steps,

  • Right click on McAfee M icon at bottom right[next to time & date]
  • Select Update
  • Restart the computer and run a Quick Scan
  • If the issue still occurs, try re-installing McAfee
  • Uninstall McAfee and restart the computer
  • Re-install McAfee and run a Quick Scan
