Fille McInst.exe: is it a virus?

Jump to solution

I've found: C:\ProgramData\McInstTemp######\McInst.exe (in a strange folder)

(replace ###### with a long number) Could it be a virus?

I've found a previuos question in: https://forums.mcafee.com/t5/LiveSafe/McInstTemp-folders-and-McInst-exe-files-may-I-delete-them/td-p... Somebody asked: My I delete it? (dated 10-26-2020). The answer was in a private message.

In any case, I stopped it by Autorun.exe (source: MS) and Autorun64.exe.

Thank you for your answer. Regards. Pietro Munari

Hi @PMunari,

Greetings from McAfee.

The McInst.exe file is the McAfee application installation execution file. It has to be on the PC and it is not required to be deleted.
