This pops up when I try to Configure Online Backup. Two days ago the technician told me I had to uninstall and reinstall Mcafee Total Protection - 3 PCs so I did this. I clicked on the link provided and could find absolutely no item related to this specific problem.. Must be a catch all link that wasted more of my time. What a pain. So MCAFEE guru, how do I configure the online backup so I can use it, since I'm paying for the service. And don't tell me to uninstall yet again. That would make three times this month. I want a fix and I want it now. Additionally, I expect something from McAfee as a token of good faith towards me as a customer. I work hard for my money and there are many other products to select from.

Message was edited by: paulb_mc on 11/02/11 16:15:25 CSTDid you click that error URL? If you had done so it would take you to the Technical Support FAQ pages when I just found this : http://service.mcafee.com/faqdocument.aspx?id=TS100793&lang=en_US&prior_tid=3&AnswerID=16777220&turl... and under ErrorCode5 leads to this: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS100741
If those don't help then contact Technical Support Chat and ask them to escalate the issue.
Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I did click on the url and it led to an empty webpage. Good to see you had more luck than i did. The error i'm having is 'accounterror5'. The info displayed seems irrelevant and overly complicated, much like technical support (if i hadn't reinstalled antivirus as they suggested i wouldn't have this new problem). A simpler fix would have been to just remove mcaffee antivirus from my computer, get a refund and switch to norton which worked in harmony with mcaffee online backup. Maybe i need to switch to another online backup now and rid myself of macaffe altogether. Ridiculous

AccountError5 means that it's confused as there is already an account using it...that's where Tech. Support would help, or so I would have thought.
I never use online-anything anyway myself as it uses up bandwidth and I'm a pretty heavy user anyway and don't want to go over my ISP's limit.
I'd rather have my backups on my external drive or wherever, but here at home where I know what's happening to them.
tech support refuse to propose a solution without first phoning me and gaining access to my computer. Overkill? I will try to fix it myself but switch to norton if i cant.
i prefer online backup to an external drive, you don't need to think about it, until i had these problems
That's normal procedure.
i think you mean to say it's 'common' procedure
Whatever, it's the fastest way they can bring about an improvement.
