1. Why IE7 and Vista service pack 1. You really need to update these to keep your protection current.

1a Not running a proxyserver in the IE setup details?

2.When you deleted norton did you use their removal tool?

3. Try removing Mcafee or any part that got installed via

http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS100507

reboot and run

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/Mcpreinstall.exe

Retry the install

Moved this to Home General Discussion.

Did you or do you by any chance have another brand of protection software installed previously (or currently).

What is your operating saystem and service pack and what version of Internet explorer is installed?

Vista SP1 is no longer supported so no wonder you are having issues.  Read about that here: https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-1315

There help here installing SP2:  https://community.mcafee.com/thread/2019

Also IE7 is almost obsolete so please, also install IE9:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie

Run the Norton Removal Tool http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN&ln=en_US then the patch that Tony has mentioned above and try again:
