McAfee has been fair about it's inability to protect against every virus 100%. There is not one protection out there that is capable of providing a 100% guarantee. Anyone who thinks otherwise, has the wrong expectations.
Like everything else in life... we are all accountable and responsible for our own protection and taking the measures to provide the best security while surfing online.
Viruses are created/recreated over a rate of thousand a day. There is no way one protection will learn of everyone of them and have a defense built by end of day for each of them. that is unrealistic.
Those that remove based on "likeness of activity" are not found in a corporate setting for obvious reasons... the incompatabilities of major computer systems and applications it takes to run a business can't afford the problems encountered with such programs that lack sensitivity to customizations, various program languages interpretuers, etc.
I use another freebie program as a backup because nothing is perfect and I take repsonsibility for my own protection.Message was edited by: sol on 2/23/12 8:11:24 AM CST
Along with Norton/Symantec, AVG, Avast, Kaspersky, Eset, Nod32 etc. etc. etc. no. It's not possible to make an antivirus detect these things as well as the millions of infections they already detect as their detection for unknowns, a.k.a. heuristic detection, would have to be cranked up so high that almost everything on your machine would grind to a halt whilst being investigated. Hence the existence of special tools - many of which are listed in a page I made elsewhere in these forums and linked now in my signature.
Your best protection is safe surfing and an up to date system and common sense plus a few extra tools kept handy just in case.

So that's a "No" to Does McaFee now include protection against the "System Tool" virus, and a "Yes" to McAfee users still being at risk to it.
And yet you give a recommendation that "Your best protection is Safe Surfing" - surely that's what McAfee claim to, and are paid to provide ?
This is unacceptable, given that McAfee have been aware of the virus and its dire consequences for well over a year . And yet your reply tries to include the "System Tool" virus in "unknowns".
How many other viruses are McAfee aware of that they can't be bothered to protect user against ?
It is not a defence to list other Virus Protection Providers and say that they don't include it . In all it's promotional media McAfee goad us into buying by claiming they are better than the other providers.
I would not recommend McAfee products as in my experience they failed to protect me and my query was met met by invalid corporate excuses.Message was edited by: isettaworld on 23/02/12 10:26:19 CST
You're not getting what I am saying and I am only quoting the experts on the malware removal forums. NO ANTIVIRUS, NO MATTER WHAT BRAND, will remove most of these fake anti-malware pests.
Maybe you should try some others just to see how you fare.
" You're not getting what I am saying"
Yes I am, and I am exposing the contradictions and ommisions and loopholes in what you don't say.
"No antivirus, irrespective of brand will remove MOST of these fake anti-malware pests".
Now you are not getting what I am saying " It is not a defence to list other Virus Protection Providers and say they don't include it. In all it's promotional media McAfee goads us into buying by claiming to be better". Are you saying McAfee is no better than the others ? "All the other soldiers do it " is no excuse for mistreating civilians. McAfee should make it clear in their promotional material exactly what the limits of protection are, and what is not included. Anything less is misdirection.
"Maybe you should try some others just to see how you fare ?"
Well, after McAfee let me down so badly I certainly haven't been relying on them to keep me and my PCs safe. ( and I've had a trouble-free year.)
