can you use Mcafee's Shredder on an empty HDD?

So AFTER forming my decade old 2TB external hard drive to erase my data, I had the genius idea, that i should have shredded my files.

File Shredding on Mcafee Total Protection, on the Quicker "Basic" option, it would shread 2 times. The 1.8TB 2.0 storage drive took 32hours +. My external HDD was unreadable during and after. After Mcafee said its done, I had to format to use again chatspindate. Anyone knows if Mcafee did the job?

Thanks

Re: can you use Mcafee's Shredder on an empty HDD?

Hi @Imilia

Thank you for contacting McAfee. When you use Shredder to delete the contents in Hard drive , the tool ensures that your private information cannot be recovered.

You can specify how many times (up to 10) that you want to shred an item: 1 (Quick) is the fastest and 10 (Complete) is the most secure.

McAfee has successfully removed all the files whichever available and drive will be readable as per design. Once we re-format the hard drive you can able to access the same.
