For the record regarding Windows Defender:
On Windows 7 or below (Vista or XP if installed manually) it can be activated safely if needed.
In Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 (& above) it must NOT be activated under any circumstances when a 3rd party antivirus such as Intel/McAfee is installed.
