When logging into Windows XP - Error message refers to Components of Active Shield Missing or Not Installed Properly?

Jump to solution

After rebuilding my computer system due to a disk crash, I installed all software for Windows XP Operating system, including McAfee Virus Scan and Support Center.  I am now getting an error message when logging into Windows XP:  "Some components of ActiveShield are either missing or might not have been installed properly.  Please reinstall ActiveShield."  This message continues with a question about whether I started up in SAFE mode, and that I should reboot in normal mode.  The system is coming up in NORMAL mode, no problems there.

It seems that some of old McAfee files are existing on your computer. We need to re-install McAfee on your computer to fix this issue.

Download the removal tool from: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.

Navigate to the folder where the file was saved.

Make sure all McAfee windows are closed.

Double-click "MCPR.exe " to run the removal tool.

NOTE: Windows Vista/ 7 users must right-click MCPR.exe and select Run as Administrator.

Restart your computer after running MCPR tool

Jayadeep,  This worked.  Thanks a bunch.  I believe the OLD McAfee version got out there when I installed an old McAfee Recovery disk after I loaded the Microsoft Windows XP operating system to the new disk drive.  I really appreciate your quick response.  Dennis
