I've been reading through some of the posts in an attempt to resolve my problem myself, but am not able to do this. I contacted McAfee Technical Support and they have said that they won't help me further even though my problem is not resolved.
About a week ago, my IE7 kept crashing so I attempted to do a System Restore to remove any new softward that may have caused IE to crash. I was unable to do a System Restore as this was not turned on. For some reason (and I don't know if it is just a co-incidence) after this, McAfee's status in Security Centre went from Protected (green) to (yellow) to Not Protected (red). When I click on "Fix", I get an error which says "One or more problems cannot be fixed because of an error".
I have uninstalled McAfee, used the MCPR tool to completely remove it, uninstalled IE8 and am back to IE7 now and re-installed McAfee. But I am still having the same problem.
I was trying to use the information contained in other posts and this led me to discover that my regedit and Taskbar have both "been disabled by your administrator". I am logged on as an administrator. I had this problem once a couple of years ago and remembered that the problem was caused by spyware. I have ran Malwarebytes and have kept a record of the log.
I've tried to use the McAfee Virtual Technician and get the following error:
|VirusScan - 3-User McAfee Total Protection 13.15.113|
|Problem: Missing files (1)|
|Problem: Service(s) not running (1)|
In the log file that I have saved I have discovered a couple of errors:
Health Check Details
|File||1 file(s) incorrect|
|Service||1 service(s) incorrect|
|DAT and Engine||OK|
My problem is that I don't know what to do next. Can anyone help me please?
Your posts says that your not able to access your task manager!
This seems to be a spyware issue, try runing the stinger scan from http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe
Double-click Stinger and select Preferences.
Enable the Report Applications option.
Click Scan Now and allow the scan to complete.
NOTE: During the scan, you may receive a clean error during on certain .cab files. Ignore the error and allow the scan to complete. The files will be removed when the system is restarted.
Restart your computer and let me know the status.
When I tried to run the Stinger program, I got an error saying "The instruction at "0x708f5e50" referenced memory at "0x7ffdaffe". The memory could not be "read".
Click OK to terminate the program.
Click Cancel to debug the program.
I tried selecting Cancel and Stinger just closes down.
I have been able to access my task manager and regedit by another method that I found.
I have ran Malwarebytes again and it was clean.
I tried the McAfee Virtual Technician but it says that
Result: Some problems could not be fixed
VirusScan - 3-User McAfee Total Protection 13,15,113
X Problem: Missing files (1)
X Problem: Service(s) not running (1)
Do you think there is anything else I should try before I completely un-install and re-install McAfee?
I have upgraded to IE8. The last time a technician took remote control of the PC, he said that IE8 was corrupted.
My Time and Date settings are correct.
Thanks in advance.
My VT session ID was: 22074175
Thanks for updating me with the MVT session id,
before you try to uninstall & reinstall the program, try to confirm the following;
1. Open your command prompt (Start - run - type cmd (or) start - all prog - accessories - command prompt )and then type ping download.mcafee.com and post me with the reply you get there.
2. Open your web browser and check whether your are able to login to your mcafee account.

I tried what you said and this is the reply I get:

Another thing I've noticed is that each time I re-start my PC, my Task Manager and Registry are disabled. I've downloaded a program to let me back into the registry, and from that I can enable the taskbar by setting the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\System and deleting DisableTskManager.
Has anyone got any ideas?
Check and delete if you have any other antivirus softwares in add/remove programs and C:/program files and common files.
Run the mcpreinstall tool from http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/McPreInstall.exe .
And start installing again ; If you come across any issues post me with the exact error message you receive at the time of download.

Thanks. I also use Malwarebytes. Could this be affecting McAfee?
What are the exact steps? Is it:
1) Uninstall McAfee and use the MCPR tool
2) Run the mcpreinstall tool
3) Reinstall McAfee
I will try to do this tomorrow evening if this is correct.
Yes, Third party softwares might have a conflict during installation.
And Yes, that's the correct procedure for installation .
