Re: Total Protection Installer different for Laptop then PC can't chose custom Install

Thanks.

in the meanwhile turn off those aspects you don't need or want.  I know that's not the best way but until we learn why this happens.

Meanwhile perhaps you could give us an outline of the laptop's vital statistics which might give clues.

Re: Total Protection Installer different for Laptop then PC can't chose custom Install

The new installer only gives the option of installing the other components (Available features) ie Anti spam, parental controls and file lock. True key is also available but shown off to the right of the GUI. You get McAfee Security Centre 15.1.R0 which is 15.1.156.

Not every new install gets the new installer which as zman99 found is different to the old 1. Soon all installs will be the new version. So it appears one cannot leave out the main features as we could do in the old installer ie cut out Vulnerabiliry scanner etc,

Of course those features are not part of Antivirus plus my comment was a general 1 that covers Total Protection / livesafe.

Peter I was unaware AV+ did not have custom install

Re: Total Protection Installer different for Laptop then PC can't chose custom Install

That last line: I meant in the sense that the OP was talking about.

With AV+ I believe on the old installer one could omit the firewall if so desired, something I always thought was a questionable choice, and probably WebAdvisor.

But when AV+ was offered by 3rd parties (ISP's etc.) sometimes there was no choice.  I could be wrong there.

In the interests of safety I think the new installer is sensible given the modern-day threats.   One can always disable features one isn't using, but at least it means they are always there if needed.

Re: Total Protection Installer different for Laptop then PC can't chose custom Install

Thanks for all the responses, seems peace stated it that the new installer if it comes up will not allow custom installation.  Mcafee should rethink this since people like to customize what they install or just install everything.  Customizing installs have been common for over 30 years i have been working with computers, and it is not smart to remove this from users.  One of the biggest complaints with windows 10 (which is why people haven't switched) was forced updates without allowing to user to choose when to install and what to install.  Now mcafee is following the same bad practice.
