Re: Total Protection Icon not responding

I’ve been a long time use of McAfee and never had trouble until I renewed earlier and the 2017 version was installed on my pc’s.  I have 3 on Windows 7 and a 4th pc on Windows 10; all of them have the same issues. I’ve used the virtual tech tool without any positive gain.  The McAfee support provided the simple reinstall however within a few days of that, one or more of the pcs would return to the failure.

The newest symptom now is that the firewall shows both on and off when looking at McAfee.  The failure to view scans and reset options can’t be done on another one of the 4 pcs as McAfee will not open, and continues to show that there is an update being installed.  I’m not a happy at this point with these failures on all of the pcs. I’m afraid to have it installed on the other devices I have at home or recommend McAfee to others.  If the problem isn’t fixed soon I believe I’ll be trying some other programs and discontinue McAfee for good.  Sadly I was always happy with their products.

Re: Total Protection Icon not responding

catdaddy,

I too am having the same problems, with both my computers using windows 7 ultimate.

It can get stuck on the updating for "days"!

I called tech support (Service Request #: 2191409982 - Feb. 27th) and we went thru completely uninstalling and reinstallation. Everything was fine that day, and then it reappeared again.

Sad part is, if I didn't try to open Total Protection from the task bar, I would not have known, because right clicking does nothing.

I've been with McAfee for years, and this is unacceptable. I don't know what to do as calling tech support and repeating the process, won't provide a lasting fix.

Re: Total Protection Icon not responding

I will attempt to reach out to our Resident Tier 2.5 Technical Engineer to add to the discussion. Thank you for providing the *Service Request Number* for your session. This will immensely assist him in determining exactly what was done by your experience with support.

Could you or one of the Team kindly add to the discussion?

I will email him as well...

Overall this should help us work towards a resolution for all.

Re: Total Protection Icon not responding

I might add also that the New Version/Build 15.0.R0/15.1.156 or higher. Is slated to begin being throttled out the latter part of this month. There has been numerous enhancements and fixes implemented in this Build.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Re: Total Protection Icon not responding

I followed your (Catdaddy) link today to open a chat with Support. They at first wanted me to try MVT but I referred them to this thread and explained that I had no intention of doing that - especially as de-installing/re-installing had not helped.

Eventually they admitted that there was a fix in the new version which I could install manually - I hope that's true!

7:32 PM

It should be 15.0.2063 or 15.3.3061.

I ran out of time and had to terminate the chat. How do I get that version?

Getting an acknowledgement that there was a problem took a while ... it wasn't readily forthcoming.

I should also add that when McAfee got stuck in installing updates, my laptop would no longer go to sleep automatically when idle. Really annoying side effect. Fortunately that problem has gone away since I reverted to manual updating.

Re: Total Protection Icon not responding

The tech support guy that helped me also downloaded the version they use for "manual installation" as the one you download from your account to reinstall was not allowing me to add features.

Same result. Updates take days.

Looks like it might be a good idea to wait til the end of the month as Catdaddy suggested. I just hope the real time scanning is working still even tho it says it's updating.

Re: Total Protection Icon not responding

Hi ,

If you are not able to open McAfee Antivirus on your Laptop PC's then you may please follow this Knowledge Base Article. However if the issue is due to script error while opening McAfee as seen in the image below, the problem is under investigation by McAfee. You may have to wait for a while before the below mentioned popup appears.
