I am on W7 64 bit all updates.
Last night McAfee called for a restart after update.
Upon restart, I noticed my CPU usage peaked and then leveled about 25-30%.
If I turn off real time scanning CPU usage drops to normal.
This is quad core extreme with 8 gigs of memory.
SC 11.0.560
VS 15.0.288
PFW 12.0.355
All fans on this machine kick up to higher speeds when CPU heats up, as of now these fans are screaming.
Ran several virus detection programs and MWbytes, all say PC is clean.

Tsk. Too slow replying. Okay, can you use Process Explorer to find which instance of svchost is doing this? The Properties box will help narrow it down to one or two areas.
Task manager shows CPU usage from svchost local service
Hi Ron, do you mean svchost (Windows) or mcsvchost (McAfee)? If it's McAfee can you isolate the service that's causing this within the process?

Although this started after VS update restart, and stopped if I disabled VS realtime scanning, it turned out to be a font that wasn't installed properly.
I checked svchost services, went to services that were listed in svchost and disabled those I could untill cpu usage dropped to normal.
Windows font cache service was culprit.
Had installed several fonts last month, uninstalled them, rebooted all was fine.
Reinstalled fonts and all is well.
Thank you
