The idea of installing Chrome anyway and then remove from the list of programs etc, is probably the way to go. I will play with this idea, and report back, probably now next week as away for a long w/e.

Okay. It's been an interesting question, and one that hasn't come up before, so you got our attention. What it comes down to is that if you get the Google search page in IE you also get the download invitation and that can't be prevented. You can, as Administrator, block Chrome from connecting to the internet but not, I think, only for the restricted-privilege accounts.

All thumbs today. - on 04/10/12 20:00:49 ISTAlso make sure that Google Toolbar isn't installed as it's another level of 'intrusion' which you don't need because in IE the address bar also doubles as a search bar anyway plus there is a search box at the top right.
