ok, If I do the reinstall of the OS from the disks when we bought it, do I need to do anything prior to that?  I'm assuming I can google how to 'back up' everything on the computer that I want to keep, but is there some sort of way I need to 'restore to factory settings' or something of that sort before putting the disk in or is that essentially what the back up part is?

I'll try the unistall first and see how it goes after that honestly though.

That would be a last resort, As Safeboot has said often they only install some remote access software.
