Re: Red Circle with Exclamation Mark

Hi Nisa51,

I suspect the files to be copied from a PC that have Online Backup Installed. Could you just confirm whether you copied the files from a different PC or an External Hard drive wherein McAfee Online Backup is configured to Backup that Directory autmatically.

You can also Check if the Service guy whom repaired your Tower did transfer these files.

Hi Chinthanai

I downloaded from My Account that was roughly one year ago on this new PC and have kept it up todate every since. I did the custom installation which installed everything including the Online Backup. I knew the Online Backup was there but have never activated this or used it, as I backup externally.

The Online Backup files were in c\ drive Programme Files but as I said never activated or used it and the progamme never appeared in Control Panel uninstall progammes. Just the McAfee Security Suite, even on the uninstall this the only options where the Security or Site Advisor.  So I have no idea why these Exclamation Icons appeared on my .exe files on my Desktop. The only files I have on desktop was the Nvidia graphics card set up and also the ADWCleaner all my other icons were shortcuts and nothing more.

So for a test I deleted my ADWCleaner from desktop and redownloaded and saved it to desktop - the Exclamation mark appeared.

So another test I deleted it once again,  redownloaded it but this time saved it to my Downloads folder and created a shortcut to desktop. No exclamation mark appeared in downloads folder nor on the shortcut for the desktop - Go figure.

Any new filed I chose to download if saved to desktop would have the exclamation mark.

So hence I have just spent an hour now I completed uninstalled McAfee Security Suite and used the removal too as well rebooted and No exclamation marks on my Desktop  - Hooray

Reinstalled McAfee by downloading it again from My Account as I still have a subscription - thank god.

Used the custom install and unticked the box for Online Back Up.

Rebooted

Hooray no exclamation marks all seems to be ok.

But this seems a very drastic course to take just to remove the icons even though the Online BackUp programme was not actually activated or used at all.
