OK, long story short, I got a virus on my computer which put the .vbs extension on each .jpg on my computer. Mcafee quarantined every file which ended up being around 35k of them and because there are so many Mcafee freezes and wont restore them. I was able to locate the Quarantined folder that is housing all of the files but they are zipped and password protected. I can unzip the folder but when I go to click on the picture the password prompt comes up.
Has anyone run into this? Any idea what I can do? I spent almost 3 hours on the phone with Mcafee and not a single person has been able to help because they all say the only way to do it is by restoring it through Mcafee. I attached a picture of what the file looks like in quarantine. Thank you for any help!
There is a way to clear the list but everything is gone We can ask the techs during our Monday call if you want they are high level techs though I fear the files are gone.unless you have a backup
The files can be deleted with Access protection off (navigation/general settings and alerts/ access protection provided you reenable AP after you delete the files. I would change all the files once you get them out of the zip to jpg but they might be infected so take care.
Oh the password is emailed to you check for an email from me
Whatever you do is your choice I would just delete all the files.
I really can't delete the files. I was looking to unlock them and try another route. I'll look for your email thanks.
Did you disable Access Protection and click Apply? (Leave the UI open on your taskbar so you can easily reverse it)
Then proceed to the Quarantine folder and try deleting the contents but NOT the folder itself.
It shouldn't ask for a password but if it does then use "infected", minus the ""
The Quarantine folder location is, if my memory serves me right: C:\ProgramData\McAfee\VirusScan\Quarantine

Yeah what peter says also it is possible your Pc is still infected therefore I suggest you run several of the free scanners mentioned here before and after atempting to restore the files.
With Malwarebytes use the free version not the free trial of the premium version and with getsusp add your email detail;s to the preferences.
