Re: Mcafee Won't Update - Malware Infection ?

Jump to solution

Hi,

Could you please let me know if you have found anything else out.

Someone from Mcafee called me today but due to time constraints I am not able to talk over the telephone.

I just checked again and I am still having this problem though.

I will be able to connect via chat though if your friend is able to help me ?

That would have been the support person. Did you tell them to call back?   The Chat connection is random and can't be connected to a person of your choice.

Normally they call and then ask to link up to your computer to investigate the problem.

No, could you possibly ask them to contact me through the forum and then link to me from here. I have lectures at various times each day so I am not always around. If they could just link through chat though then the technician can quickly check my pc again and take appropriate action if you believe he can fix it.....

OK.  Actually this is a colleague of the person I mentioned as he is tied up on a project for the time being.  I'll ask him to relay the message.

Thanks I really appreciate it; it's just that I have been through quite a few technicians and none of them could really systematically pin point the issue and I have no clue.

If they could just make contact through this forum/email/chat it would be great as I don't really have time for the telephone.

Thanks again...

Have done, but eventually a phone call may be necessary, anyway I'll leave that up to him.

McAfee doesn’t update – by that do you mean when you click on Check for updates ; it never responds / or Starts updating and then stops ?

Please let us know the DAT version on McAfee : From the About Options ?

Can you please try the below and get back to us ;

1.       Open CMD (Start->Run->CMD) If you are using Vista/Windows 7 type CMD in search bar and, right click on CMD from the search results and select Run as Administrator.

2.       Type : ping download.mcafee.com and press enter

3.       Let me know if it gives a valid ping reply or 127.0.0.1 ?

Also,

Start->Run – type drivers and press enter
From here open the file that says
etcRight click on the file that says hosts and select open with
Choose
Notepad to open the file
From the Notepad that opens up – the last line should contain – 127.0.0.1 local host

Any additional entries below that can deleted and save the host file accordingly .
