Re: Mcafee Won't Update - Malware Infection ?

That's strange - what software version is installed?  Open SecurityCenter snd click 'About" at top right.   If the software had been properly removed and reinstalled everything would be there.

Are you using any registry cleaners?

Also how dfo you connect to the internet.

Hi,

Security Center Version 11.

Build : 11.0.654

I have not used any registry cleaners as far as I can remember (certainly none after the last re-install).

I connect wirelessly (adsl router).

The software adopts whatever is set in Internet Explorer which I assume works OK (regardless of your default browser should you use another) so open Internet Explorer and go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and click Reset, Apply and OK

I don't know  your operating system and service pack or what version of IE is installed so am guessing.

After doing the above close and reopen IE and go to Tools/Manage Add-ons and re-enable any you need.

Try updates again.

Hi,

Still no luck.

I have 3 mcafee add-ons shown.

Also my computer updated a few hours ago; so windows update is indeed working.

What's next ?

Go back into SecurityCenter and look to see if it's green and says protecting.

Look at the Subscription section and tell me if says Active.

Go to About and tell me the DAT number for VirusScan

That's 10 behind what it's supposed to be.

First try running the McAfee Virtual Technician to see if it will fix whatever is blocking updates:  http://mvt.mcafee.com/

If that doesn't cure the situation try updating manually by running an SDAT from here: http://www.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/security-updates/security-updates.aspx (Click 'I accept" if asked to)

If that doesn't cure it then I'm not sure what else I can do  and will have to call in someone else to assist here.

You don't happen to have the last session ID # that support gave you do you?

Hi,

I aready tried manual updating - works but still won't auto update when new version comes out.

I think this number has all the info hopefully - I have had many interactions : 484570-826483975.

I will try MVT again - but it didn't work before. If you could maybe get a high level support tech to help it would be great. Else I may have to try one more re-install now that that supposed malicious file was removed. Dunno....

Thanks

Thanks, Cause I would really like to get this frustrating problem sorted.....

I ran MVT and it detected 2 problems (log attached) it fixed the registry but won't fix the outdated DAT
