I also am having the same issue of McAfee constantly updating. I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 back in July. All was working correctly and then in the last week I noticed that it was updating every couple of hours. It slows down my computer each time it does this and sometimes freezes other sites I am on. I get the little blue icon over the McAfee icon indicating it is updating. When I check the Updating status it shows it updated and then when the next update will occur which appears to be every 3 to 4 hours. I contacted Technical Support, they had me install the MVT tool and run it. It came back with a result that 1 item was fixed but it did not fix the problem and I'm totally frustrated at this point that I turned off the Updates. When I told the Tech Support that I could see that the Update was going to occur again in a few hours, she said this was because of Win 10. I'm not understanding why Win 10 is the problem since everything was working fine up until a week or so ago. It would appear that something changed in a McAFee update which is now causing this issue. The updates will typically occur less frequently so why the constant updating?
What else can I do? Thank you for the assistance as I'm ready to delete McAfee even though I'm still valid till 2016.

It's a bug that they are testing a fix for as we speak. It should be fixed in the next few weeks I hope.
Thank you Ex_Brit for the reply. Was this 'bug' caused by an update recently from McAfee because everything was working correctly until something changed with McAfee in the last week or so?
It's been a bit longer actually but some people weren't immediately effected.
Thank you. I appreciate the response. Last question: When I check "About", I like to keep track of what is the most recent build. Is there a place I can check to see what should be showing in "About"?
Julia
For the fix the McAfee Security Centre build should be 14.0.5042 or so
I have the same problem on 2 computers for some time.
Hansi45: It is a pain . I finally turned off the Auto Update. I turn it on once a day, let it do its thing and then turn it back off. It just slows down my computer and will freeze browsing.
I'm sure they are working on a fix and hopefully, it happens quickly.
HI, I have the update stuck problem too on Windows 7 laptops. One will complete if I go to the update details screen (I may as well set to 'manual' for the time being)
The other laptop had the same symptoms but now returns an error telling me that update failed and that I should check my internet connection. There is no connection problem, of course ... but my Total Protection will not now update.
The product has been stable until just recently and now it seems very flaky with initial start-up seemingly taking forever.
I've tried MVT but it fails. Is my best bet to uninstall/re-install the whole package?
[BTW, my iTunes problem in another thread seems to be resolved - possibly by the work-arounds suggested in that thread which I implemented]
I'm not sure uninstalling and reinstalling will resolve whatever the "bug" is that seems to have crawled into the software. Won't that just
reinstall the problem?
