Re: McAfee Total Protection - Firewall Stops & Stuck In Update Mode

At this point, my question to the forum is,

Does anyone know of a good antivirus program I can buy which works?

I would be careful you don't infringe the forums Terms of Service.   This is not the place to ask that question, nor is it appropriate either as, for the majority of us, the software works just fine.

Occasionally it gets stuck in update mode, which McAfee are aware of and working on.  A reboot cures it.  I mean a proper reboot, not sleep then wake up.   I mean close system, power off, back on and start the system again.  That works fine here.

Could you please contact this customer and attempt to assist him again?   As he still has not been capable of getting his software up and running. He is actually at the point of requesting a refund.

Re: McAfee Total Protection - Firewall Stops & Stuck In Update Mode

Hi Catdaddy,

No, I have not tried doing a McAfee update in Safe Mode. My most recent experience (last week) was the McAfee control panel was inaccessible shortly after installing the product from the "My Account" tech support page. All I ever saw of the control panel was a minute or two of the splash screen with the "M" on it, and then it would disappear. I'm on a Dell Laptop running Windows 8.1.

Thanks,

John

Re: McAfee Total Protection - Firewall Stops & Stuck In Update Mode

Catdaddy,

My installation went well just the other day, but when I was up and running for awhile I wasn't able to access the control panel. I never got to a point where I was stuck in an update mode. I couldn't see what was going on at all.

I think I'll await  for the upcoming release before I do another load.

Best regards,

John
