McAfee Security Scan Component Host Service

Jump to solution

I have a windows service “McAfee Security Scan Component Host Service” installed on my Windows 8 PC whose startup type is Manual and is not started when the windows is started. My question is:

  1. What is functionality of this service?
  2. Is it necessary to make it startup type to Automatic?

The windows service file details is attached.

Second thoughts: if you have McAfee Security Scan Plus listed in your Programs and Features, uninstall it.

That's a marketing tool that is an optional extra with many products such as Adobe.

Moved to General sub forums.

I would imagine it scans to check if you and your settings are secure, I do NOT recommend meddling with ANY McAfee services.

,

If I am not terribly mistaken, this is associated with the 'McAfee Security Scan Plus' application.

McCHSvc.exe Windows process - What is it?  If this is indeed the case, I would advise that you remove it.

As it is merely a application that scans your computer to make certain you are running a Anti-Virus. It quite often gets inadvertently installed as a (Optional) offer when updating Adobe/Java Products.

Thanks for your quick response

As advised, I have uninstalled the "McAfee Security Scan Plus". And I have found another one "McAffe Agent", any idea what it is?

I ( DO NOT) recommend removing the Process 'McAfee Agent' McAfee Agent - Should I Remove It?  For it is a vital 'Core' process.

Agent is part of VSE so I would leave that alone.
