I have only changed the registry-key "start" from 2 to 3.
It is not necessary to change System32\drivers\mfeapk.sys to C:\...
(I compared the keys with my windows 7 laptop that has an old McAfee Installtion and the PC windows 8.1 installed McAfee last week).
Hi uwe-dembski,
Please follow the instructions in post 3 - use "\" instead of "/". The post 15 is just a sample for explaining deathstalker's query on post 14. Please do not confuse.

Chinthanai,
Greetings,
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I applied the registry settings carefully as described in post #3. I did the "\" instead of "/", as you describe in post #21. All I can report is my XP based system still hangs on mfeapfk, according to the event viewer, about 2 minutes during each reboot it says it fails to start. Shutdowns are minutes slower now too.
Any additional help wpuld be much appreciated.

Please navigate to the location C:/Windows/System32/drivers and check if mfeapfk.sys file is present. Make sure you enable View Hidden files in Folder Options's View tab.
Hi Selvan.
I have done so, and the file is present at 176kb with a date/time stamp of 02/19/2013 1:52pm Pacific time. The file being a little over a year old now.
Hi wfmc,
In your Image posted above double click on "Imagepath" Change the value to system32\drivers\mfeapfk.sys and click OK. Press F5 and close regedit. Restart the machine and check if the driver is functioning properly..!
Everything seems to be correct, all procedures done carefully as directed, but I still get the "fail to load" 2 minute delay on each boot (warm or cold boots both tried).
