Like many others, I am receiving relentless pop-up ads from McAfee trying to get me to upgrade from Total Protection to PC Optimizer.
Apparently this is a built-in feature (not that this stopped some hopeless tech support person from wasting an hour or so uninstalling and reinstalling Total Protection as a guaranteed fix of the issue).
Now, this is obviously annoying and unethical. But can someone from McAfee tell me if this kind of advertising without any opt-out is legal under Australian consumer law?
Hi @DannyCh,
Greetings from McAfee.
We regret the inconvenience. We thank you for sharing this with us. We have reported this to the engineering team and will let you know once when it is fixed.

Hi KS
Thanks for the quick response, but I'm confused.... I asked about the legality of this built-in advertising. How would the engineers know? Surely this is something McAfee should have immediately available and should be more than willing to share publicly.
Looking forward to a response that answers my question.
Regards
Daniel
Hi @krishna55
About 6 months ago you said you'd you'd let me know when a solution is ready.
How's that going?
Thanks
Daniel
