My mother downloaded the latest update from McAfee. When she rebooted and tried to connect to her dial up it gets to either "Authenticating" or "Registering Computer on Network" then freezes the entire computer. I deinstalled McAfee, rebooted and was able to connect. I then reinstalled McAfee and the issue returned. Is there a fix for this issue?
This is a known issue that started with the upgrade to the 2011 version back in late May. It has been reported and is being investigated.
It does the same on my system with both CompuServe 2000 and the CompuServe Dialer as well as Juno. Others have reported that it reboots the system or gives the blue screen.
Yep. An issue before until today and until now, it has not been fixed. I hope the team can do something about it this coming 2012.
You can get around the problem , at least with CompuServe and Juno , by doing the following:
- obtain AOL 8 or above and install it
- run the AOL software and tell it to connect
- once it connects , close it
- no use your ISP's software and it should connect just fine
This works for me.
Thanks for the suggestion. Hope they get it resolved soon..or the permanent fix will be to Install another AV.
It's a shame that the issue has been known this long and has not been resolved.
