Installed MCAFEE Internet Security.
XP Svc PACK 3 .
Windows will not RESTART. Can turn off and start; but cannot RESTART. Freezes at brand logo; windows will not load.
Same problem on 2 machines running same copy of XP
Everything else runs fine.
Hi Rptop,
Have you tried running Check Disk and sfc /scannow?
How much installed memory (RAM) and free hard drive space on these machines, also what CPU or processor are they using?
What security software did these machines have installed previously?
Any previous problems?
You say 2 machines running same copy of XP. You mean the same license? If so that could be part of the problem right there.
Where are you installing the McAfee software from, online or a CD, if the latter what does it say on the CD?
Ran both; no change
I can only offer advice if you answer the questions in answer #2, I am wondering how you could run both (chkdsk and sfc I assume) if you can't even load Windows. Perhaps you could clarify that also.
Machine 1 P4 2.60 ghz 1.5 gb ram 120 gb HD 90 gb free space
Machine 2 P4 3.2 ghz 1.5 gb ram 75 gb HD 60 gb free space
Previous version of mcafee uninstalled before downloading current version
Both machines have same version (license) of XP SP3 all current updates
Both machines were trouble free just before download/install of current Mcafee internet security
Windows loads fine if machine is TURNED OFF and then turned on.
Widows will not load if I hit RESTART
Ah OK, the resources seem OK but this restart business will have to be researched, and while I'm thinking about that you might want to open a case with Technical Support Chat linked under Useful Links at the top of this page.
Off the top of my head the only question I would have at this stage is did you run the MCPR cleanup tool after uninstalling the old software?

After the new download and before the install, the app did search for "previous version" to delete on its own; is this some kind of cleanup tool?
Yes, sort of I guess, there's no need to worry about that then. I'm still thinking about this. Tech Support might be your best bet.
Do you by any chance have the XP SP3 installation disk? Original or a slipstreamed version would do.
(Anything less than a full XP SP3 wont do unfortunately).
