I can't remove old device from account

Jump to solution

I have contacted customer service about removing devices from my account 3 times already, but what I got was an email that told me that they couldn't complete my request.

This is what I got on email:

"We were not able to complete your chat conversation regarding Service Request x-xxxxxxxxxx.

To re-initiate your chat, please contact support using the link below during our hours of operation and we will be happy to assist you.

https://service.mcafee.com/contact?SR=x-xxxxxxxxx

If we do not hear from you in the next 48 hours, we will close your service request."

So I just want to know how to remove a device from the account.

This is a longstanding problem for me too. My account has several old devices long disposed of (disk reformatted etc). Now I simply want to reconfigure my PC and am unsure that the PC name will remain the same so I want to uninstall McAfee and reinstall later. Why on earth is this so complicated, and how do I remove the old devices which I no longer have?

This advice does not go anywhere near solving the issue. If I have disposed of a device (sold, donated to charity, whatever), it is uninstalled, wiped, reinstalled. All blank space is then wiped. So the advice about what to do if you no longer have access is useless as the machine has no McAfee installation in it (and may well have a new name). Why can I not remove a device I disposed of years ago by simply accessing my account? I can quite see that some additional security procedure may be needed (like advising me that somebody is attempting to delete before deletion is done) but a better procedure cannot be beyond the bounds of a programmer's ability.

If that option is not in your account details the only way is contact support. I seem to remember that after a set period of inactivity they remove themselves. Though would not assume such.
