How do i know if my McAfee software I just downloaded is working?

How do I know if the McAfee software I just downloaded is working?  I know I had a virus before I downloaded the service but it has not shown that it has cleaned my computer.  I clicked on run but nothing happened.  I looked on the McAfee site but there was a zillion different places to email.  Can somone help!  I had to remove my other virus protection to download the McAfee and I want to be sure I have protection.

Well firstly the installer would have told you that the software installed successfully, or not.  You would see a McAfee icon next to the system clock which when double-clicked or right-clicked would open SecurityCenter.

Causes of failure can be infection in which case run Stinger and/or Malwarebytes Free from this link:  Anti-Spyware/Malware & Hijacker Tools

or.....other security software still installed, in which case remove it.  By the way Malwarebytes will prevent McAfee from installing so temporarily uninstall it before trying.
