How do I get fire wall to stay on

I use to have total protection through McAfee now I have multi use total protection through my verizon fios as indeed it was less money per year. Had issues getting it to install resolved that now the Firewall will not stay on nor the real time scanning. Already ranrootkit killer nothing found and Stinger nothing found. Rebooted reran MVP unable to fix

If the MVT failed to help then I suggest uninstalling via Control Panel > Programs, then running the MCPR cleanup tool, reboot and then reinstall from your online account.

Also make sure that your Windows is totally up to date including Internet Explorer, even if you don't use it.  (McAfee does so that is important).

If I may add to the discussion, please make certain that your "Base Filtering Engine" and Windows Firewall are set Automatic ,and started. To include all other "Start-up" settings which are needed for McAfee to function properly.

Thank you both very much for your replys.

I folowed Ex_Brit's first suggestion & so far so good. I will see if I have the issue again tomorrow as last night on install did not appear as an issue however, today upon starting cop was there. If there I will do all the suggestions.
