Desktop Icon

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get McAfee to stop putting a freaking icon on my desktop? I delete it and after I restart it is there again!

Re: Desktop Icon

Well a search will get you 100 hits. This was a bug caused by an update on 22 dec to fix another issue. It is annoying but will not affect your protection. Mcafee is working on a fix as a matter of urgency.

Have vote in the desktop icon idea in the ideas forum as an idea to place a option in settings to say no icon thanks...

Re: Desktop Icon

That's B.S.! The problem is related to the 2012 upgrade not a 2011 update!

And, not only is this icon thing supposed to have been fixed for this upgrade but it should not re-ocurr because you fix a supposed new issue. Someone's copying and pasting rather than writing new code.

Now, where in the registry do I find the string to modify?

Incidentally, I've noticed not only does the desktop icon reappear but it's located [w/ Windows 7] in the Public Desktop {Windows XP it's in the All Users Desktop. Also, the McAfee folder on the [Windows 7] Program Data Start Menu Programs is reinserting itself too; likewise, the Windows XP All Users Start Menu Programs McAfee folder. And, if I relocate the shortcut in that folder, it's undone when the reinsertion is complete!

As for that solution which is posted: I'm not spending money to download software to open the dang file! You people need to load the fix into an update IMMEDIATELY!

Re: Desktop Icon

Sorry this is caused by a patch to 2011 version. No-one but beta testers have 2012. Boxes with 2012 on them are 2011 updated to Current patches.

Please check the terms of service for posting on this board - https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-1001 which you agreed to when joining.

Many more posts like yours and we may have to reconsider your access to these forums, McAfee customer or not as almost every single one is rude and very inconsiderate & absolutely no help to other posters and disrespective of the unpaid volunteers here who are trying to help.

Re: Desktop Icon

I just received an update from McAfee.

The desktop icon issue is still with me! How's the development of the fix progressing? That is, if you can comment.

Re: Desktop Icon

Since so many are having issues with the McAfee software, maybe everyone should completely uninstall the McAfee software and go with someone else. Then, ask for a refund....
