I have gotten a message that my computer is at risk and isn't being protected so I automatically hit the "fix now" button and it continues to take me to a page to buy a new McAfee product. I have already bought a new product. I do not need a new one. It won't let me scan for virus's, which means that I probably do have one but can't get rid of it. Any suggestions?
In case you do have an issue try
Update your dat files and scan your PC with Virusscan in Safe Mode.
To do this, tap F8 repeatedly while booting up. You'll get a boot screen with choices. Pick Safe Mode. Your PC will boot in a low resolution state as most processes won't be running. Go to "MyComputer" (XP) or "Computer" (Vista), right-click the hard drive and select "Scan" from the drop-down menu. You'll see an extra taskbar icon which will show a progress report if youhover over it.
If you think you have a virus infection on your PC do one or both of the following :
- Run the free Mcafee Stinger program from http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ -
Download here latest version https://community.mcafee.com/thread/32269 ensure you attach your email to the preferences
Before you use Getsusp, you should go to this document
https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-1323
and download the PDF file explaining what Getsusp is and how it works, and this document
https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-1761
which downloads the installation guide PDF document.
If you want a second opinion, or to be on the safe side, then you can do a scan with the free versions of these tools :
Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware
That said I assume you have heaps of subscription left?
What product did they ask yo to buy?
Hi kimmyrea,
I just happen to check your records and found that you have a valid subs for McAfee programs . Could you please run the McAfee Virtual technician from here : http://mvt.mcafee.com and post back your session id . Along with the same ,right click on the M icon at the lower right hand corner of the PC and select verify subscription and let me know the message that you get .
