Folks, please explain to me why you are so hung on continuing to use McAfee after all the BSODs, data loss and lackluster support. I ended up removing my third license from yet another laptop after the frustration of dealing with McAfee support and no more BSOD, slowness or lock ups on Vista or 7.

Just a note to thank you for your advice recently but also to say that, after more problems, I finally parted company with McAfee & went back to Norton.
Norton were able to say without qualification that the latest version of Norton 360 works with Win 7 64bit and, so far, their confidence has been justified.

Sorry you left I and Ex_BRit use win7 64 bit and I use 32 bit win 7 as well with zero issues re bsods. Strange, if I hear anything will post here for any1else following this thread who still is not on the dark side.
Well more weeks pass and still McAfee say 'a few more days!!' I think it must be time to consider Norton too as no one in McAfee seems to have gotten hold of this issue..

Exactly who is telling you "a few more days" ?
I get the same message from the online help desks somewhere in the Indian sub continent...Our technicians are working on the problem and it will be just a few more days.....And still we wait

Hi Im having a silmillar problem with my laptop with windows 7 and McAfee. It had a trial version of Mcafee internet security 2010 on it when i got it, tried it liked it, purchased a full version when trial ran out. Put the disc in, it removed old version, connected to the internet downloaded new version, I entered the product key and hey presto all up and running . Couldn't fault it, the next morining on switching on my laptop could not get as far as putting in a password stright to Blue screen, minidump and into recovery mode. I started up in safe mode and removed McAfee and the laptop was fine, so installed it again, same thing happened. So tried the virtual tech and they said they were aware of this issue and are working on it it will be a few days before an update is released ( Yesterday 26/05/10). Now I have found this string and am a bit concerned,do you think this is the same problem? You have been waiting for a bit longer than "a few days" any info?

Have you tried uninstalling, using the MCPR removal tool (See Useful Links above), reboot and then tried installing from the online account?
Sorry I haven't time to read the entire thread.
If you've already tried that then keep bugging online Technical Support Chat.
I'm having a similar problem here. Thankfully no BSOD. I'm running Win 7/64 on an ASUS M4A79XTD EVO mobo, and McAfee Security Center version 9.15.175. I was having the periodic shutdown of real-time scanning service. McAfee support had me reinstall, which may (or may not, will know tomorrow) have corrected that problem. However, when I run a system health diagnostics report I get a warning that "The device, McAfee Inc., is reporting "tv_ConfigMgrErr24". This device will not be available until the issue is resolved. The Plug and Play ID for this device is ROOT\LEGACY_MFEHIDK01\0000." (No wonder it's taking so long to fix. The whole corporation says it's not available 🙂
I also get an advisory that "The Security Center is unable to identify an active anti-virus application. Either there is no anti-virus product installed or it is not recognized." Security Center, in this case doesn't mean McAfee SecurityCenter, which reports virus scan properly, nor it is Activity Center, which reports the VirusScan is installed and working. I thought Security Center was in XP.
Not having a clue what the mfehidk01 driver is for, I don't know this, but I suspect that the warning and the advisory are somehow related.
I'm tempted to rename mfehidk01.sys just to see what happens, but don't want to turn an apparently benign warning into a BSOD!
I posted the detailed diagnostic reports to another discusson group, before I found this one, so won't repeat here. Here's hoping that after 3 months, McAfee is close to a solution to the mfehidk01 mystery.

On Monday we discussed this and someone asked me to look in my system32 folder at this file and see if it was digitally signed, it was. But apparently on some 64-bit machines it is not. The question is, why?
Possible reasons - other providers modifying the product (Dell, AOL etc.) or some internal system factor, but what?
