Please help with Firewall and DLNA devices

What settings do I need to configue to allow my DLNA device to connect to my computer?  It works fine with Mcafee firewall turned off so I know the firewall is what is preventing a connection.

My PC is running vista with latest updates.

Security Center versino 11.0, build 11.0.654

Firewall is 12.0 build 12.0.345

Thanks for any help.

Re: Please help with Firewall and DLNA devices

Check the TCP/UDP port that you DLNA device is using then add it in your firewall's trust or whitelist ports. You might want to turn off the firewall first by the way to see if its really the firewall blocking the connection.

Good luck.

I've been searching but unable to determine where I find the TCP/UDP port that my device/receiver is using......could you help me locate this?

What's the device (name and model)?

Onkyo txnr609 receiver.  When I have Mcafee firewall turned off, I can connect and play music from my computer all day long.  If Mcafee firewall is on, I can connect, but can only play music for a couple minutes before the connection is dropped.

Re: Please help with Firewall and DLNA devices

that did not help.  I'm still unable to solve this mystery.  it's definitely the mcafee firewall that is causing the connection to drop....when firewall turned off there are no problems.  How do I find what port to add to the allow list?

Re: Please help with Firewall and DLNA devices

It's probably best to contact Technical Support on this matter as they have a much greater knowledge of these things.  It's free via phone or online chat and linked under Useful Links at the top of this page.

They'll need to know what brand/model DLNA server you are using.
