How can I get it to turn on? Everytime I try to turn on the firewall it turns right back off. How can this be fixed?
Two ways
1 reinstall the suite as per
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS101331
reboot and run
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/Mcpreinstall.exe
and reinstall from your account

Maybe not exactly the same but check both services are presenent and set to started and automatic.
I tried both of those last night and they did not work for me. Is there anything else I can do?
I just uninstalled the whole McAfee program and reinstalled it from my att account and now it appears to be working. I hope I don't have to do this often, because I really don't have time for this nonsense.
Agreed
Hi. I am new here. I have a virus which constantly tells me my firewall is off. I turn it on and it says it's on, for a while. However, if I click on the Security Center Home where it says it is on, and go to settings, it is off. The Techs tried Getsusp, Stinger and ComboFix doesn't work on Windows 8. I installed Malwarebytes myself, and ran a scan, it found two objects which I deleted. I rebooted, but same firewall off problem. I tried the advice of going to registry and making sure firewall had a "2" in the box, but it was there. I don't know what else to do. HELP!
1 post enaough I replied to your otehr post re this. I will contact all when I get the file though in your case if Malwarebytes did not fix the issue the issue will return.
Try getsusp and superantispyware from here
McAfee Communities: Anti-Spyware/Malware & Hijacker Tools
In getsusp add your email to the preferences so Mcafee can contact you if they find an issue and have a fix.
The reasons your firewalls are malfunctioning could be various, not least of all malware, for hints on that see the last link in my signature below if you suspect it could still be present..
There is a Microsoft Fixit for those with problems regarding missing or malfunctioning items in services.msc which are causing error popups.
First you will have to uninstall McAfee via Control Panel > Programs in the normal way.
Then run the MCPR cleanup tool and reboot.
Then run the Microsoft Firewall Fixit.
Then reinstall McAfee from your online account.
I experienced same problem.
Fix - Windows Firewall setting is ON which prevents Mcafee from having Firewall ON at same time.
Goto Control panel ; find Windows Firewall icon, click it on; left side of page click on "Turn Firewall setting on or off", Windows Firewall setting ON, click it on to set it OFF. Close Control Panel; goto Mcafee and you will be able to set Firewall ON, permanently
