Re: Firewall keeps turning off

What is shows is that I should take more time to read previous entries, and I apologise for that.  My time is at a premium at the moment unfortunately so am doing things in a hurry.  I was merely trying to point out that it could be a combination of things.  I'll bow out and leave this to others.

Re: Firewall keeps turning off

Thanks for your honesty. It is SOOOOO frustrating, though, to deal with the support online because they always have to start from "Step 1".

Re: Firewall keeps turning off

Did they provide you with a job number? They should be able to use your email address at least to get the details. Did any1 tell you what the virus was?

Re: Firewall keeps turning off

Per Peacekeeper's suggestions...

Alright, I spent a lot of today running various programs and here is where I stand:

1) Ran TDSSKiller.exe - found nothing

2) Ran malwarebytes anti-malware - "No malicious items were found"

3 )Ran Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool - "No malicious software was detected"

4) Removed McAfee via products-->uninstall

5) Restarted computer

6) Ran MCPR

7) Restarted computer

😎 Attempted running system file checker and got this:

ScreenHunter_01 Jun. 19 20.09.gif

So what is my next move??

Thanks!

Re: Firewall keeps turning off

That sounds as if some windows files are corrupted. Not that up with where to go other than reinstall windows will ask around.

Try getsusp and rootkit remover from below link  add your email addy to the preferences of getsusp so they can contact you if the files it reports back to mecafee are infected.

Re: Firewall keeps turning off

Hi. Spent all day yesterday with level 1 tech controlling my computer and trying todo several things. Each way to get around was blocked by this virus. It is not a corrupted windows file. They would like you to think that because they are responsible to keep your computer safe from these very viruses. If it was an iert corrupt file, he would have been able to get one of his many work-arounds to work, but he was defeated every step of the way. This thing is insidious, not a coincidental fluke.

Today, two different "Level 2" techs have been working on it. Still no luck, though they seem persistent and knowledable. I don't understand when I have had the same problem 2 months ago, they haven't been able to solve it, and it gets by the McAffee system., Right now they have not been able to reinstall McAffe. it's like the virus is literally got a vendetta against McAffee.

I'll keep you all posted. This is pretty bad!

Re: Firewall keeps turning off

Nice to see they got onto you quick. Did you try getsusp and some of those programs in the link that you have not used?

Re: Firewall keeps turning off

McAfee Communities: Anti-Spyware/Malware & Hijacker Tools

Scan with getsusp (add email addy to the preferences and scan also with stinger and malwarebytes (free do not install the trial of the full version)

If passes I would assume that a full uninstall reinstall next thing to try prior to calling support as this will save you going though the same suggestions from them.

reboot as required and run

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/Mcpreinstall.exe

and reinstall from your account
