The issue is due to some Windows setting being corrupted ,... so if the windows settting is damaged the software you install on it will also get affected does not really matter what you default application is as all these are installed on the Windows OS.
For all users having this issue.. Please try the fixit posted earlier. once done. rebooot and check if issue is still there.... If the issue is not fixed check and see if the windows services are up.. Re-install McAfee only if Windows services are up but McAfee is not.. re-installation re-configures the firewall services.
Hi All,
In my case, just following the steps 1 to 7 of the first post on https://community.mcafee.com/message/280363, but I urge you to check whether McAfee is faithfully reporting the status of the Firewall.
I recommend using a better check (e.g using the Start - Run - services.msc to confirm the McAfee Personal Firewall Service has been started again) rather than simply looking at the McAfee window, because on my PC, prior to fixing the problem, McAfee was reporting that the Firewall was On, but the services.msc disagreed with it, reporting it was Disabled. Within McAfee, I found I could reach the point where I had the button permitting me to turn it Off (with all McAfee indications up to that point saying it was On), but the services.msc saying it was Disabled. Only after some time reporting "On" (perhaps about 15 to 20 minutes after switching on the PC) does McAfee decide that in fact it is Off. At that point, the red warning banner appears, and the "On" button is availabe but ineffective.
In my case the simple remedy seems to have been effective, without the "fixit" but has only been applied this evening, and only for the single reboot required by the process. If you don't hear from me again, treated as a problem put to bed for my situation: Win XP SP3, and no Base Filtering Engine required.

also, here is a screen shot of the issue
tahealynn your pictures portray things as they should be - what does McAfee SecurityCenter say?
Message was edited by: Ex_Brit on 12/06/13 9:40:35 EDT AMtahealynn, I branched this conversation out to VirusScan as this has nothing to do with Personal Firewall.
See https://community.mcafee.com/thread/57303?tstart=0
In trying to branch the whole thing from your original post the board malfunctioned unfortunately and deleted you first post, however, those pictures showed services.msc as working correctly.
So in the end I simply branched out your very last post., sorry about the mixup.
I also ran into a firewall problem. I've tried everything I've read here, but nothing helped. Finally, re-installed the Total Protection, but indicated more problems in the MVT and the main board was defective. Then I restarted the computer and seems to work properly, but the problems have not been adressed, because the MVT was not able to repair them... Is there any solution? But look at the results:

Technical Support is your best bet if a reinstallation didn't help but perhaps Vinod_r2 will return to contribute his expertise here.
is the Firewall or any other setting disabled on your machine?.. Please restart the machine.. install all Windows updates once done...
Login to MVT.mcafee.com and install the latest version of McAfee.. Allow it to finish and post back with details on the Autofix... I do not see a firewall issue at the momement but its worth checking.

Not locked, now works properly, but indicated 25 (3 + 22) problems of the MVT.
Today I realized what could be the problem: PC does not start normally, it had to be used System Restore. Meanwhile, the Windows renamed McAfee sub-folders - gkb (2), ... - that's why do not see the MTP. I tried to rename, but I can't. So now I reinstall the MTP and write it again to see what the situation!
Thanks for your help!
After the McAfee updated the windows updates, re-installed the MTP. Everything is fine and everything is working perfectly, but left three problems. I don't know how these will affect the proper operation...
Thanks again for everything!
