Running Vista Home Premium with cablecard activation
The internet connection is DSL but the cablecard tuners connect as USB but show up in Network as netowrk devices and each have a unique IP address. My home network and the unique IP addresses for each tuner are entered as trusted in McAfee Firewall
The only other security program on this machine are those that are part of Windows Vista (Defender).
The error occurs when two tv shows are scheduled to record at the same time. One will usually fail especially if it's a series recording. Sometimes it will fail and the tuner will recover and find the same show not in HD and switch to the SD channel to start recording.
I am not alone with this problem, you can see the various threads on Greenbutton related to 771 error with cablecard ATI tuners in Vista Media Center.
Most people have solved their problem by dumping McAfee and/or Norton Firewalls.
Is it possible to uninstall McAfee and then do a clean re-install without the personal firewall? The machine is primarily used as a Media Center machine.
Thanks
John
