AOL blocked

I've noticed that usually when I try to connect to AOL I get an error message saying that 'the computer was unable to connect to AOL' and 'System Information: ACD 4.8.8.4; TC/IP Connection; Err 0x90000000, WinXP-SP3; McAfee Personal Firewall". However, I can access any other website with no problem, and I can even access AOL as long as I do it very first thing when I boot up (if I wait a few minutes or try to run another program while I bring it up then I get blocked and the 'error message' appears). Is there some way to keep the firewall from blocking AOL? (I've tried adding AOL to sites that the firewall should allow access to, but with no luck). Thanks.

RE: AOL blocked

hi,

if you are using an AOL browser to connect to AOL try adding it to the program permissions... you can find it by opening mcafee, then going to internet and network:

  1. click on the configure button for internet and network
  2. then click on the advanced button for mcafee firewall configuration
  3. then on the left side click on program permissions
  4. you'll have a list of programs, try to look for AOL and grant/allow it full access

(if AOL is still not in the list add it by clicking on the add a program button, you'll then have to browse for the AOL executable)

hope this helps...

P.S. have you also tried resetting the browser?

hope this helps...

RE: AOL blocked

I checked and all of the AOL-related programs have Full Access so it doesn't seem to be that.
How do I reset the AOL 9.1. browser?

RE: AOL blocked

close all windows ( including AOL)

Download: DelDomains.inf - Right-click and select: Save Target As
Close all windows including IE
To use: right-click and select: Install (no need to restart - there is no on-screen action)

Note: This will not reset IE but is likely to fix AOL issue .
