File Lock Not Loading

Jump to solution

Hi All,

Long time lurker, first time poster.  I need help with File Lock.  I recently installed Total Protection 2014 on my Dell Vostro computer with Windows 7 Professional 32 bit.  Everything works except for File Lock.  It shows as being installed but when I click on the File Lock link nothing happens.  No wizard.  No vaults.  Nothing.  The process is active in Task Manager but that's about it.  The only thing that happens is that when I right click on a file to open a context menu it is "ghosted" until I hover the mouse over the menu.  This only happens after I click on the File Lock link.

Here is what I have done thus far.  I have run the latest McAfee removal tool, the McAfee installation preparation tool, removed trace files from my hard drive and the registry and installed, removed and reinstalled Total Protection.  i have done all of this several times but nothing works. I have also run the McAfee MVT tool several times and it does not identify any issues.

I have trawled the internet and have not found anyone in the world with the same problem.  I find this impossible to believe.  I'm all out of ideas so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Bulky

Re: File Lock Not Loading

Jump to solution

Hi,

The problem was "mysteriously" solved. It could be because the number 4 of the following commands executed successfully:

(1) launch a command prompt run as administrator

(2) type "c:\program files\McAfee\mat" enter

(3) type "regsvr32 /u McPvNs.dll" enter

(4) type "regsvr32 McPvNs.dll" enter

I think the "Filelock" initial dialogue box appeared after a long delay after I clicked on it (I went out and when I came back I saw it on the screen !).

Here is the screen shot that you asked for:

Thanks !

Thanks for the try Tony but none of those links are any good because I can't even get to first base with File Lock because nothing happens when I click the File Lock link.  And by trawling the internet for a solution I should have mentioned that it included trawling the McAfee Community site as well.  Thanks again and I'll keep looking.

Call support  and if they are not helpful ask for the call to be escalated. We mods do not use the product File Lock.

Hi Bulky,

Please tell me the OS version on your computer, such as windows 7, window 8, etc.  Make sure the windows explorer works fine; McAfee File Lock is an extension of  Microsoft Windows Explorer.  If there is an issue in Explorer, the File Lock can not be loaded.

Good luck!

Re: File Lock Not Loading

Hi Bulky,

Apparently, all information about your system is given already on your first post. Sorry about that.

If Windows Explorer works fine, please launch RegEdit to see if following registry is available:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\{AF6FB31C-95D0-4A0E-8AFE-099969D8B689}

if this registry does not exist, that means the File Lock is not registered.  In order to fix this problem, Please do following:

(1) launch a command prompt run as administrator

(2) type "c:\program files\McAfee\mat" enter

(3) type "regsvr32 /u McPvNs.dll" enter

(4) type "regsvr32 McPvNs.dll" enter

double check the regedit to see if the registry setting mentioned above is available.

If everything is fine. Logoff and login again. try launch File Lock to see if the problem is fixed.

Good luck!

I moved this discussion over to the actual File Lock forum for clarity as Anti-Theft, where it was originally, is no more.

I have exactly the same issue: I purchased and installed McAfee total protection yesterday on my Del Laptop with windows 7.0. When I click on "Filelock", nothing happens.(I saw the YouTube video, a dialogue box should appear)

Please help as this is a serous issue that has happened at least for two users.

Have you been through the previous help offered on this discussion? If so what were the results (for each test etc)?

See my answers in green:

first have you read the FAQ list

some that could help are

http://service.mcafee.com/faqdocument.aspx?id=TS101369

http://service.mcafee.com/faqdocument.aspx?id=TS101196

http://service.mcafee.com/faqdocument.aspx?id=TS100552

Go to

http://service.mcafee.com/ProductSelect.aspx?lc=1033&sg=TS&pt=1

The above links are not useful as they assume that we can run the “Filelock” but I cannot start the “Filelock” to begin with.

Call support  and if they are not helpful ask for the call to be escalated. We mods do not use the product File Lock.

What is their phone number? I prefer not to go through this option at the moment.

if this registry does not exist, that means the File Lock is not registered.  In order to fix this problem, Please do following:

(1) launch a command prompt run as administrator

(2) type "c:\program files\McAfee\mat" enter

(3) type "regsvr32 /u McPvNs.dll" enter

(4) type "regsvr32 McPvNs.dll" enter

I tried to run the above commends (I think number 1 is actually “cd c:\program files\McAfee\mat”)

Number 3 fails with the following error message:

“The module McPvNs.dll was located but the call to DllUnregisterserver failed …”

Thanks !
