Dark Web Monitoring

This seems like a McAfee scam to get you to buy their product to 'remove' you from the dark web sites. McAfee reports that my data is on multiple sites on the dark web. Then there is a remove button next to each entry. I click on remove and am redirected to their website where they do not have any button (as mcafee says) to remove me from their data. Instead they  go thru a 10 minute 'scan' for my data, asking me to confirm personal info along the way, and in the end want to sell me their service.
I also don't think McAfee has any way of really removing this data from all of these sites. They are lawfully collecting info from public sites and I don't see how McAfee can force them to remove all data about you.

SCAM!!!

Re: Dark Web Monitoring

Hi @lnerenbu ,

Greetings from McAfee.

We regret the inconvenience caused. Please let us know which feature of McAfee you are using for dark web scan. Do let us know if you need assistance on data removal using Personal Data cleanup or Dark web Monitoring on Identity protection services. As a reference I have attached article which may help you.

Your data is found on a Data Broker site

Kumar

Re: Dark Web Monitoring

I went online to multiple sites to remove my records and what I see is that these sites are a game of whack-a-mole. Repeatedly I found myself going to the broker's site and it was the same site for 'different' broker's listed in your list of where my data is. I got, from supposedly different broker sites, the same boilerplate email confirmation. Five different sites sent me the same format email. lI'll be interested to see if these same sites do not show up again in the next scan.
On yellowpages I get this:

Your browser has been opted out of sharing your site visit information with third parties for the purposes of remarketing.
The functionality of this button relies on browser cookies to store your opt-out preferences. If you subsequently clear or delete your browser’s cookies, you will have to click this button again to update your preferences.

So basically they are saying that they have a way of making this opt out not work.

I just don't see much value in what McAfee is selling here. These people have too many ways to keep selling your data even if you manage to 'opt out'.
