Spam option in outlook 2013 grayed out

Hi,

I have windows 8 professional with 64bit with outlook 2013 and updated Mcafee all protection.

All features are turned on on McAfee, but on the tool bar Sapm options are grayed out.

So basically i can not click on email and then Spam button to register it as spam.

Any idea how i can un gray them.

Thanks

Kind Regards,

K

Re: Spam option in outlook 2013 grayed out

You may have to reinstall the application but one person using an earlier version of Outlook found this helped:

if you highlight one email message and then right-click to bring up the right click menu and do nothing and then left-click, the Anti-Spam toolbar is un-grayed for the remaining of the time that you have Outlook open.  Pretty weird!  If you close Outlook and re-launch it, you will have to repeat this for it to un-gray again.

As it's the weekend it may be while before anyone 'in the know' comes along, so it may be in your best interests to open a case with Technical Support.  It's free by phone or online chat and linked under Useful Links at the top of this page.

Sorry I don't use MAS myself, so am pretty clueless as to how it works.

Re: Spam option in outlook 2013 grayed out

Hi Ex_Brit,

Thanks for your advice, I tried this but it is not working.

I also noticed that if i open an email then the options are not grayed out, but when i click on them i get an error " This action can not be performed in the current outlook folder"

I noticed that there was no "McAfee Anti-Spam" folder under inbox. so i created one manullay, but this still didnt help.

Any idea what this error is related to?

Thanks

Kind Regards,

K

Re: Spam option in outlook 2013 grayed out

Well it sounds like the sofftware is corrupted somehow.  Best uninstall everything via Control Panel > Programs, then run the MCPR cleanup tool and reboot, then install from your online account and re-configure it after you've done that.

Tech Support would probably tell you to do that as a first measure.

If that doesn'r help then I would contact them.

BTW make sure Windows is up to date with all patches, including IE even if you don't use it.

Re: Spam option in outlook 2013 grayed out

I had same issue with Greyed out buttons.  I have Outlook 2013 with 2 accounts setup, one POP the other Exchange.  I notice my POP mail buttons were usable (NOT Greyed out) but my Exchange was.  It turned out I had to turn on Cache for the Exchange Account (offline file).  Once I did this the buttons worked as described.

Hope this helps.

Re: Spam option in outlook 2013 grayed out

I recently purchased an HP desktop with Windows 8.1 and Outlook 2013. As an option I got McAfee Livesafe. I activated Livesafe and sometimes later I noticed that Mark as Spam, Mark as Not Spam and Add Friend was greyed out on the Home menu. The McAfee Anti-spam menu had the same three items greyed out but Import Contacts and Settings are active. I also noticed that no anti-spam folder was created. I only have one Comcast email account.

Yesterday I called tech support and after looking at the install opted to uninstall and reinstall the product. The product was reinstalling and tech said that should fix the problem and signed off. After the product reinstalled I have noted that all the aforementioned issues still remained.

There is nothing complex about my PC just plain old Windows 8.1 and Office 365. It is a little frustrating as I really don't know if the product is doing anything and I don't know what if anything is happening to any spam email as there is no folder

The fix used by the previous poster didn't help?

Best reopen a session with support and ask them to escalate the issue
