Website redirects, but clean virus scan

Hello Community,

My computer is redirecting websites to porn, advertisements, or saying no internet connection.  This is not all of the time, happens randomly.  Sometimes I am unable to open sites from a google search.

I have updated McAfee and scan results are clean, finding zero issues.

I am new here and I did not see another discussion on this problem, sorry if it is a repeat.  Any help in directing me on what I can do next is appreciated!

Those web redirecting "viruses" are very difficult to get rid off sometimes. Run "McAfee Stinger"  http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/free-tools/how-to-use-stinger.aspx which is a free stand alone scanner that focuses on finding specific viruses.

If Stinger does not find anything I recommend you run "http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363" which I have had a lot of luck with when it comes to redirecting viruses it has worked for me everytime so far since it focuses on finding root-kit viruses that cause website redirecting when doing a google search. This scan runs for about 30 seconds which is very fast since it focuses on finding Root-kit viruses which are normally what causes redirecting issues.

As well as the standard stinger try

Fake Alert Stinger | McAfee Free Tools

As well as this try www.malwarebytes.org as it concentrates of these and fake AV type malware.

Do not accept offer of a free registered version trial as it clashes with Mcafee.

Thanks, Guys. 

I installed free malewarebytes, updated and ran full scan.  It was clean.

I installed McAfee Stinger free tools scanner, it was clean. 

Lastly, I installed and ran the Kaspersky TDSS Killer, also clean.

Any other thoughts?

One option you have is to backup your data and reload Windows. These redirecting viruses are tough to remove and if none of the above virus scanners found a thing then its going to be diffucult to get rid of it. You can wait and see if anyone else has any other ideas but at that point I would simply reload Windows and start over.

Would be too easy to just remove all temp files ( both windows and internet) and then go to a restore point before the issue happened. Of course these malware are starting to be awake up to this way of getting rid of them so not a solution always.

You can try getsusp and see what it finds as suspicious. It auto sends the files to Mcafee so ensure you add your email addy to the preferences so it can inform you of what it finds.

BTW stinger fake alert is updated daily so retry downloading it.
