Subject: Important notice regarding global cyberattack WannaCry
This past Friday we witnessed a coordinated global cyberattack known as WannaCry. It is one of the biggest cyberattacks that we have ever seen impacting over 150 countries and infecting more than 250,000 machines. WannaCry is a type of malicious software (malware) classified as ransomware. It encrypts essential files on your Windows device and requires that you pay a ransom to unlock those files. Although it primarily focuses on organizational or business networks - as was the case with WannaCry - you can do your part to stop the spread of this by doing the following:
We are actively working on a free decryption tool that, if successful, we will make it available as soon as possible. We are also working with law enforcement agencies around the world to understand who conducted this attack and will do everything we can to bring them to justice.

Thank you for being a valued McAfee customer.

Oggetto: avviso importante sull’attacco informatico globale WannaCry

Thank you Tracy.
Very informative.
Despite having McAfee, our company's systems were attacked by ransomware on 10 May. It took us a week to get everything back online.
Interesting Article - Security researcher says he's figured out how to decrypt WannaCry
"...when WannaCry infects a computer it generates encryption keys that rely on prime numbers. Here comes the important part: The ransomware does not erase the prime numbers from memory before freeing the associated memory. If you are lucky (that is the associated memory hasn't been reallocated and erased)," continues Guinet, "these prime numbers might still be in memory."
I am not impressed at all by the time Intel/McAfee took to post this pop up message for your users, more than a week after the WannaCry crisis started. You posted other messages about the virus, on a technical level, but such a general pop up message aimed at all audiences should have come much earlier. I am a pr specialist in crisis management, having dealt with major media relations issues that the organisations I have worked for faced in the media. That sort of issue must be dealt with the very same day, especially as the corp comms team at McAfee/Intel surely has developed contingency and crisis communications plans to deal with that kind of issue that we all know is most likely to happen in these days of cyber terrorism and attacks. Yes, not impressed at all.
As we always respect one's personal Opinion, However please be informed that McAfee (Always) addresses such without *Publicaly* announcing it.
Thank you for your reply. However, I disagree. Such a general message posted to reassure your main audiences should be have been posted much earlier. Believe me, I know what I am talking about, having dealt with major media and public relations issues for the last 20 years... My strategy has always been winning, I can tell you that. I suggest you forward my comments to the corp comms team. Best, BL
With all due respect...I must politely disagree. As I personally on a weekly basis correspond with the *Powers to be* whom have for the last 20 years/more have kept our customer's best interests at heart. McAfee does not have to predispose there timely assistance.
Thank you

blp - I get what you're saying. We got a blog up, day of the incident. Our Developers then worked to ensure that all variants of WannaCry were covered through the distribution of a new malware signature file to our users. Upon completion, we leveraged the in-product alert to put to rest anyone's concerns. We acknowledge there are always ways to improve, but best seen retroactively.
catdaddy - thanks for all you have done and continue to do every day for McAfee users!
Thank you for the Accolades Tracy.
