To Ex_Brit. Re 27th May Post.
I am still going down your list and I have SUCCESSFULLY reached " run the preinstall tool"
Where do I find it?
I have searched McAfee and get the message " no results!! You will remember that when I searched for "MCPR removal tool " I got the message " not recognised "
Do you know any reason for my unsuccessful searches?
With your help, I shall continue to persevere. Thank you for your help--look forward to hearing from you.

Re preinstall just click on the name in the post it is a link or
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/McPreInstall.exe
When you search the default is the folder you are in, I just click on it after the first serach and search with a blank
Home General Discussion remove the Group name and leave it blank
Actually placed Mcpreinstall in search box on this page and get several links to the mcpreinstall.exe file. Strange you say it did not show it.

Thank you and Tony for your very fast responses to my post. Much appreciated.
I ended up solving the issue by
a) uninstalling McAfee (18 days left to go in the old subscription)
b) running MCPR cleanup
c) reinstalling McAfee (with a new subscription)
Now I repeated this process a couple times as I had messed around with doing a system restore to a point a month back. Seemed to work. So I restored back to time when problem occurred, then repeated process again.
Thankfully, no viruses were detected in the process either time.
System seems to be back in good shape.
What a headache.
Hopefully someone can take the shortcut or variations thereof for a faster recovery in the event they get the same network "unable to connect" issues.
Agreed but glad it's OK now.
Hi
