Yes there is AVG installed and something called Microsoft security Essentials.
Basically what happened I needed a reinstall of Windows xp, my repair man did this but installed avg and microsoft security essentials while he did all the necessary updates and installed a couple of my programmes. And to be honest I dont know how to disable avg
Your repair man erred on the side of caution but actually is making a mistake as you should never run 2 antivirus applications together. They can clash and actually allow infection in.
Go to Control Panel >> Security and enable Windows Firewall.
Then go to Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs
Uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials
If McAfee is mentioned in that program list then uninstall it too.
Reboot if asked to.
Run the MCPR cleanup tool which is listed under Useful Links at the top of this page and reboot immediately it asks you to.
Then go to your online account and reinstall McAfee.
If you want to keep extra anti-malware on hand I recommend one or two of the 3rd party tools half way down this page: https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-2168
