McAfee Scanner Service hogging 100% cpu

I have a corporate laptop with Windows 10 pro. I have local admin rights. I have a problem where once every few hours my laptop is suddenly crippled. It can take several minutes just to open task manager and see that mcshield.exe is taking cpu up to 100%. I cannot end task or disable in any obvious way. Also, my corporate IT is unresponsive. Is there some other way? It is so bad that I'm considering stuff like using a usb linux to go in and try to edit mcshield.exe and others to basically corrupt them in an effort to disable. Is there any hope?

No hope, that is idea of your IT team.

To be protected even if you have a local admin rights.

Just check corporate rules to see why do you cant stop/disable or uninstall antivirus software.

Re: McAfee Scanner Service hogging 100% cpu

So, what exactly would happen if I booted to linux live usb and made an edit of the mcshield.exe file to match a cut and paste of the front page of the New York Times?

Re: McAfee Scanner Service hogging 100% cpu

I found the solution (I think). I was frustrated with this and about to abandon McAfee altogether but before doing that I tried completlely uninstalling McAfee (Total Protection in my case) and then reinstalling it from scratch. That seemed to take care of the problem. Time will tell but so far it's okay.
