Internet Security 2011 Virus - Removed - Now Cannot Access Programs

I am running Windows XP and I have the McAfee Security Suite that comes with MSN Premium.

I was able to successfully remove the Internet Security Virus using a combinatin of Stinger and Malwarebytes.

My problem now is that my programs do not populate when I look in Start - All Programs.   I can see the programs in Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs but I can't access them.

When I open My Computer and click Explore no programs appear.    I have tried System Restore but even though the Restore Dates are there nothing happens  when I try to restore.

I would greatly appreciate any help with this problem.

Re: Internet Security 2011 Virus - Removed - Now Cannot Access Programs

In 'My Computer' go to the C drive or whichever drive the operating system is installed on.   Right click the Documents and Settings folder,  in the Properties window if the 'hidden' attribute is checked then uncheck that, apply the settings, OK it and see if it helps.

The infection must have done that.  Just as well the System Restore wont work as you could easily drop yourself right bang into the infection again.

Disable System Restore, reboot and then re-enable it and the infected restore points will be gone.  How to:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405

I trust this is XP SP3?
