Can't install McAfee product

Jump to solution

Hi, I'm running windows vista on an HP pavilion dv6920 laptop. I renewed my subscription a couple weeks ago, but the product kept telling me that I needed to renew the subscription. Yesterday I got tired of it, and tried to download the client from this page, and what happened was I was able to download the file, open the executable, give administrator permission, and then a window that said "McAfee" on the top opened - but only the top, a gray "heading", was visible, and the rest was white, and the "working" signal next to my mouse went on and off every half second or so. Thinking that it might resolve itself, I left my computer for two hours - but when I came back, the same exact thing was happening. I then figured that having the old program, which said that my subscription had expired but took me to a web page that acknowledged my renewal whenever I clicked "my account", might have something to do with not being able to install the file. So I uninstalled McAfee completely, and then tried the download again. The same exact thing happened - the blank window with the "working signal" going on and off quickly next to my mouse.

I've never had a program do that before. My computer is now completely unprotected, and I'm paying for a subscription that I can't install.

Help please?

Hi,

Check the date and time, if it is not correct, correct it and restart the computer

What is the type of internet connection ? ( DSL / Dial-up / Cable / Wireless / Satellite )

Click on the link : http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Once it gets completed restart the computer

still if you get the popup, check the following locations :

C:\ProgramFiles
C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles
C:\ProgramData (Note If you are not able to see program data,

hold the ALT key and press T once,

                          click on on folder options,

                          click on the view tab

under advanced setting you will see show hidden files and folders, select it

The install link emailed to the customer " will not" install the new McAfee Product.
A McAfee technician had to link in order to install it, This occurred on 2 seperate computers. A normal install download should not require any technical assistance. The email install link requires fixing it so it works
