Problem
When you attempt to install the McAfee Windows Security Suite, the installation fails and the installer displays a red banner with either of the following error messages:

Unable to Continue Installation. We are having trouble installing your McAfee software because of this. Error 0
(or)

Something went wrong with the installation
We are having trouble installing your McAfee software. Contact McAfee Support and mention problem code 0.
Solution 1 - Run the McPreInstall tool
- When you see the error, click Done to close the dialog.
- Download one of the Pre-InstallTool zip files attached to this article and save it to your desktop:
- Double-click to open the zip file and copy the Pre-Install_Tool.exe file to your desktop.
- Double-click the Pre-Install_Tool.exe, and follow the prompts.
- Wait for the process to complete, then try to install your McAfee product again.
- Proceed to the next Solution if the installation fails again.
Solution 2 - Run McAfee Virtual Technician (MVT)
- Open your web browser and go to https://service.mcafee.com/webcenter/portal/cp/home/mvt.
- Click Download and Run, then follow the prompts to run the MVT.
- Wait for the process to complete, and then try to install your McAfee product again.
- Proceed to the next Solution if the installation fails again.
Solution 3 - Re-download the installation package after running the Removal Tool
- Use a different browser and download the Removal tool
- Run the tool and Reboot when prompted
- Use a different web browser to download the McAfee Windows Security Suite installation package again.
- Retry the installation using the newly downloaded package.
Solution 4 - Resolve any DNS issues
Installation issues might occur if name resolution (DNS) is slow. Changing the DNS setting on your network card to a public server might help to resolve these issues. For details on how to do this, see TS102487.
